ERPMan's Windows Vista & Server 2008 System Updates Page [32bit/x86 edition only]
  (Updated Monday January 22, 2024)

Maximize the web browser window when viewing this page [using at least 1024 by 768 screen resolution].

Windows Vista SP1 will change the version number from 6.0.6000 to 6.0.6001.
Windows Vista & Server 2008 SP2 will change the version number to 6.0.6002.

NOTE: Security updates listed here will be grouped by each year they were released.  Starting on
November 2016, new security updates for Windows Vista & Server 2008 will be released only
on the Windows Update & Microsoft Update Catalog sites.  And starting April 2017, Microsoft
has stopped publishing new Security Bulletins and only the MS Security Update Guide site
features new security updates released in April 2017 & later.  Starting September 2018,
Microsoft switched to a new cumulative update format for Windows Server 2008, similar to the
cumulative updates released for Windows 7, 8 & 8.1, which started October 2016.

NOTE: It is not necessary to download & install all of the updates listed on my page.  You are not required
to install them unless your system has suffered serious problems.  Make sure you download the
patches for the correct operating system.  You can uninstall most system updates from your system
if they cause more problems than they fix.

I've made this page simply for informational purposes and to make downloading updates faster & easier.  All the updates for
Windows Vista & Server 2008 listed here can be installed under any edition except for the 64-bit (ia64/x64) versions.
Before installing any WinVista & WS2008 updates, be sure to activate and validate your copy of Windows Vista or Server 2008.

Key = Windows Vista original is Windows NT 6.0 version 6.00.6000, SP - Service Pack, NT - New Technology or Network
           Windows Server 2008 [R0/RTM] is Windows NT 6.0 version 6.00.6001 [Win2008, WS2008 or WS2k8 for short]
HB = Home Basic, HP = Home Premium, Bis. = Business, Ent. = Enterprise, Ult. = Ultimate, DX = DirectX
IIS = Internet Information Services, FTP = FTP Service for IIS, RDP - Remote Desktop Protocol
AKB - ActiveX Killbits, MSI - Microsoft Installer / Windows Installer, ADS - Active Directory Service
[a little star * indicates a new system update; the <> symbol means to install a patch with caution because it may have a
possible side effect; I am not responsible if the updates you download here do more harm than good]

Microsoft ended Extended Support for all editions of Windows Vista on April 11, 2017 as noted here.  And Microsoft

<> - See the corresponding MS support KB articles on the issues/problems with the recent security updates.
! - Installing the April 2019 KB4493471 or greater monthly rollup update will change the build number to v6.0.6003 as mentioned in Microsoft
support KB article 4495374.  The KB4489887 preview monthly rollup update from late March 2019 also changes the build number to 6003 as well.
# - The July 2019 and newer monthly rollup & security-only updates will require the KB4493730, KB4474419 & KB4536953 updates installed first.
@ - The KB4489880 & KB4489876 March 2019 updates are the last updates that use build number 6.0.6002.

Windows Vista & Server 2008 Service Packs: (for all 32bit editions)

Notes: Only install the Windows Vista/Server 2008 Service Pack if a newer hotfix or a security update requires it.  See MS KB
article 947366 if you experience problems installing either Vista SP1 or SP2.  Vista SP1 & SP2 are both available at Windows
Update.  Installing Vista SP1 will change the version number from 6.0.6000.16386 to 6.0.6001.18000.  However, installing SP2
under Vista or Server 2008 will change the version number to 6.0.6002.18005.  SP2 requires WinVista SP1 & the KB955430

Vista SP1 files.
<> Caution: See MS KB article 948465 on any issues with Windows Vista & Server 2008 SP2.

Other sites to find system updates and/or info for Windows Vista & Server 2008:

Notes: Any downloads for Windows Vista & Server 2008 are found from its Windows Update feature.  By default, Vista/WS2008 may be setup to download and install system updates automatically while connected to the Internet.  To turn the feature off [if you're annoyed by it] open the Control Panel, select the Windows Update control panel applet, click on the Change Settings link and select the option that says "Never Check for Updates (not recommended)", then click Ok to save your settings.  Disabling the Automatic Updates feature by using that method will cause the Security Center feature to display some annoying pop-up messages that Automatic Updates was turned off, so open up Security Center, click on "Change the way Security Center alerts me" link to bring up the Alert Settings dialog box, uncheck the checbox next to Automatic Updates.  Then click OK to save changes and close the Security Center window and Security Center will no longer display popup messages that Automatic Updates was disabled.
