NOTE: This page has been
discontinued effective July 2019. It will remain as-is
and if any links to many
of the downloads for these old versions of MS Office
& MS Works programs become "broken" or no longer
working, I will not fix them.
I've made this page simply for informational
purposes and to make downloading updates faster &
easier.
Download
and install these Office updates of their respective
versions from top to bottom.
[a
little star * indicates a new system update; the <>
symbol means to install a patch with caution because it may
have a
possible
side effect; I am not responsible if the updates you
download here do more harm than good]
The updates for all versions of Office are listed
starting from the recent version of Office at the top to the
earliest version of
Office
at
the bottom. Note that these patches are for legally
licensed versions of Office and not for
pirated versions, so for
those
using
Office XP or higher go through the product activation
process first before downloading & installing any
updates.
Read
MS
support article 293151 about the Product Activation
& Reduced Functionality features in MS Office XP/2003
& later.
The
Office
Open Document Confirmation Tool Update for Office 97 &
2000 prevents users from inadvertently opening or viewing
MS
Office
documents [created from Access, Word, Excel or Powerpoint]
in Internet Explorer and this fix is included in
Office
XP
& later.

ALERT! WARNING:
If
you use any Microsoft Office programs AND you have applied
the original release of the Windows 2000
SP4
Update
Rollup 1 pack from MS support KB article 891861, download
& install the revised (V2) Update Rollup 1 pack.
The
MS
Office
related problems with the Win2000 SP4 UR1 are mentioned in MS KB
article 904368.
Notes: MS Office 2003 will only run under
Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 & Windows 2000 with at
least Service Pack 3.
It
will
not run whatsoever under Windows 2000 RTM/SP1/SP2, 9x, ME
& NT4. As with Office 2000 & XP, any updates
installed
under
Office
2003 may require access to the Office 2003 CD if Office was
installed from the CD. Office 2003 is the last
version
to
support
Windows 2000 and extended support for Office 2003 ended on
April 8, 2014.
<>
Caution:
There are some issues after installing Office 2003 Service
Pack 3 and they are listed in MS article 923618.
~
- If you already installed the Powerpoint 2003 KB2543241
hotfix, you won't be able to install the KB2535812 security
patch
because
KB2535812 contains the same versions of the updated
Powerpoint 2003 files as the KB2543241 hotfix. So
there's
no
need to install KB2535812 if KB2543241 is already installed.
Office
XP/2002 Updates [all editions]: (existing updates only)
Notes: Office XP requires Windows 98 or NT4
with Service Pack 6a or higher to use under at least a
Pentium 233 Mhz system
with
32
Mb of RAM. It will neither install nor run under
previous versions of Windows [like Win95 or NT4 with earlier
Service
Packs].
As
with Office 2000, any update you install under Office XP may
require access to the Office XP CD or your Office XP
installation
files
if they are stored on a local hard drive or network server
[if connected to a network]. Before installing most of
the
patches
above, install Office XP Service Pack 3 which includes SP1,
SP2 & post SP2 updates. Note that any Service Pack
for
Office
XP will only install [properly] under activated
versions and not under pirated or bootleg versions.
SP3 can either be
applied
as
a 'client' update which requires access to the Office XP
compact disc or applied as a 'full' update which does not
require
access
to the Office XP CD. You will need to use at least
Windows Installer 2.0 [MSI 2.0] for any version of Windows
(except
for
Windows 95 because Office XP is not compatible with Windows
95) before installing these Office XP updates. The
Frontpage
2002
Server Extensions addon will NOT install under Windows 98
& ME systems as it is not compatible. It will also
not
install
under NT-based systems unless Internet Information Server is
installed first (except under WinXP Home Edition, which
does
not
officially support running/installing IIS; you will need
Windows XP Professional Edition to run IIS). Office
XP is the last
version
to
support Windows 98, ME & NT4 SP6a and extended support
for Office XP ended on July 12, 2011.
<>
Caution:
The MS03-036, MS04-027, MS09-010 & MS09-073 Word 2002
security updates prevent saving newly
created
documents
as
WordPerfect 5.x documents in Word 2002. However, you can
still open, edit & save existing Wordperfect 5.x
documents
in
Word. To save newly created documents in Wordperfect
5.x format, use an older version of the WPFT532.CNV
file
from
Office 2k or earlier.
~
- If you already installed the Powerpoint 2002 KB2543242
hotfix, you won't be able to install the KB2535802 security
patch
because
KB2535802 contains the same versions of the updated
Powerpoint 2002 files as the KB2543242 hotfix. So
there's
no
need to install KB2535802 if KB2543242 is already installed.
Notes: When installing any of the
Office 2000 updates, they may ask you for the Office 2000
installation CDs unless you
have
stored
the installation files on the local hard drive or network
server [if connected to a network] and you have run the
Office
2000
setup
files from the local hard drive or network server.
Before installing most of the Office 2k updates here,
download and
install
the
Service Release 1a and the Service Pack 3 updates first and
be sure to install the latest version of the Windows
Installer
(latest
is MSI 2.0) for any version of Windows except for WinXP
& Win2003; Win2000 SP3 or greater include MSI 2.0.
You
can
either download the Office 2k SR1a installer to download
& install the SR1a components or download the full SR1a
download
which
doesn't require going on the web to get the rest of the SR1a
update packages because they're all included
in
one
big download though I highly recommend using a third party
download manager to get the full SR1a download. The
Office
2k
SR1a downloads will offer users to download Internet
Explorer 5.01 if it is not installed or using less than IE
5.01.
So
to
minimize the Office 2k SR1a installation, install IE 5.01 or
greater first and then run the Office 2k SR1a update.
When
using
Windows
95 with DCOM 95 version 1.3 installed (the ole32.dll file
inside dcom95 is version 4.71.3328) and near the end
of
installation
of Office 2000 you may see an error message mentioned in MS
Support Article 241056. Simply disregard the
error
message
and
continue on with Office 2000 setup; the problem mostly
happens under the original version of Office 2000 & was
fixed
in
the full SR-1 product version of Office 2k. The SR-1
Product version of Office 2000 is no longer sold in computer
stores
after
Office
XP was released. Any Office 2000 update released after
Service Pack 3 will require the SP3 update installed first.
The
WordPerfect
5.x Converter Security Update is also included in the Office
Converter Pack of the Office 2003 Resource Kit.
The
Frontpage
2000 Server Extensions KB813379 Security update will only
install under Win95, 98 & NT4; it will NOT install
under
WinME, Win2k/XP & higher systems. To install the
KB813379 update under WinME, extract the files inside to a
temporary
folder,
right-click on the FES14.inf file and choose Install &
reboot the computer so that the updated files will take
effect.
Office 2000 is the last version to support Windows 95 and
all support for Office 2000 ended on July 14, 2009.
<>
Caution:
The MS03-036, MS04-027 and MS09-010 Word 2000 security
updates prevent saving newly created
documents as
WordPerfect
5.x
documents in Word 2000. However, you can still
open, edit & save existing Wordperfect 5.x
documents in Word.
To
save
newly created documents in Wordperfect 5.x format, use an
older version of the WPFT532.CNV file from Office 2000 or
earlier.
Notes: The latest MDAC & Jet downloads
for Windows 2000 & XP are included in the latest Win2k
& WinXP Service Packs.
When
installing
any MDAC & Jet downloads under Win9x or NT4, install all
Y2K updates for Win9x/NT4. Internet Explorer 5.x
installs
an
old version of MDAC (like MDAC 2.1) and is not included in
IE 6 & greater. The MS .NET Framework add-on
requires
MDAC
2.6
or higher to use so do not install earlier versions of MDAC
less than v2.6 if you plan to use the .NET Framework.
The
Office
Converter Pack can be installed with or without MS Office
installed on a computer as they include updated graphics
and
text
converter files. The KB892211 Web Folders update is
needed only if Office 2000/XP or the Web Folders addon from
IE
5.01
or IE 5.5 was installed; KB892211 includes the MS01-001 and
MS01-022 security fixes.
<>
Caution:
The Office 2003 Converter Pack and the KB960476 security
update include newer versions of the WPFT532.CNV
file
that
prevents saving newly created documents as
WordPerfect 5.x documents in Microsoft Word. You can
still open, edit
&
save
existing WordPerfect 5.x documents with the updated
WordPerfect converter in MS Word.

Notes: Do NOT use any of the following MS
Office File Viewers above if you already have an MS Office
product or application.
These
downloads
are for users who do not have MS Office installed or are
using very old versions of MS Office. These viewers
can
be
used under 32-bit supported versions of Windows. To
view and/or print documents created in the 2007 & later
editions
of
Excel,
PowerPoint & Word, download and install the Office
Compatibility pack.
