NOTE: Security updates listed here will be grouped by each year they were released.
NOTE: It is not necessary to download & install all of the updates
listed on my page. You are not required
to install them unless your system has suffered serious problems.
Make sure you download the
patches for the correct operating system. You can uninstall most
system updates from your system
if they cause more problems than they fix.
I've
made this page simply for informational purposes and to make downloading
updates faster & easier. All the updates for
Windows Server 2003 listed here can be installed under any edition except
for the 64-bit (ia64/x64) versions.

|
Windows Server
2003 Service Packs: (for all 32bit editions)
|
Notes:
Only install the Windows 2003 Service Pack if a newer hotfix or a 3rd party
program requires it in order for your system to
work
properly. See MS support KB article 914962
on what Windows Server 2003 SP2 contains. The first Service Pack
for
WinServ
2008 will NOT be SP1; it will be SP2 as the original release of Win2008
already includes SP1. Win2003 SP2 will be
the
last SP for Win2003 as Microsoft has no plans to release a Service Pack
3 for Windows Server 2003.
<>
Caution: See MS article 914961
on any issues with Windows Server 2003 SP2. If you are installing
Win2003 SP2 on the
Small
Business Server editions of Windows Server 2003, see MS article 932600
on any problems when installing SP2. See MS
KB
article 948465
on any issues with Windows Server 2008 SP2.
Notes:
If you want to play the latest computer games under Win2003, download &
install the latest DirectX drivers. Win2003
includes
DirectX 8.1 (not 9.0) but DX9 can be installed under Win2003. The
DirectX 9.0c runtime installer download requires
an
internet connection to download the rest of the DirectX 9.0c components.
Users can get the DirectX 9.0c redistributable
download
if installing DirectX locally or on a network so that you don't have to
download the components again if re-installing
DirectX
9.0c. DirectX 9.0c is included in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack
1 and 2. The Microsoft Paint program
version
5.00.1523.1 for Windows NT4 can be used under Windows Server 2003 as long
as you store the NT4 edition of the
mspaint.exe
file into a different folder like the 'Program Files\Accessories' folder;
the Windows 2000 & XP versions of MS Paint
are
usually stored in the 'System32' folder of the WinNT or Windows folder
so do NOT place the NT4 Mspaint.exe file in the
System32
folder; the mspaint.exe file in the System32 folder is protected by the
Windows File Protection feature of Win2003.
Only
version 5.00.1523.1 of MSPaint allows the ability to Load and Save Colors
to a Color Palette (*.pal) file; those options
were
removed from the Win2000 & XP versions of Paint. The 'Get Colors'
option in Paint only works if the color depth is set
to
65,536 (64k) colors [High Color 16-bit] mode or greater, depending on what
video card is used. After installing the MS Paint
program,
download MS Paint Graphics Filters Pack from Axcel216's web site and follow
the instructions on how to install the
updated
graphics filters.

To view a list of hotfixes installed under Win2003, run any Win2003 specific
update with the /l switch. The Qfecheck.exe
tool
from Microsoft support KB article 828854 can be used under Windows Server
2003.
