ERPMan's Windows 95 SP1-OSR1 & OSR2.x System Updates Page
(Updated Wednesday July 16, 2008)

Maximize the web browser window when viewing this page [using at least 800 by 600 screen resolution].

(Critical Updates are bug fixes that fix serious problems such as specific security hacker attacks)
NOTE: It is not necessary to download & install all of the updates listed on my page.  You are not required to
install them unless your system has suffered serious problems.  Make sure you download the patches
for the correct operating system.  You can uninstall most system updates from your system if they
cause more problems than they fix.

I've made this page simply for informational purposes and to make downloading updates faster & easier.

Windows 95 original/OSR1 is version 4.00.950, Windows 95 OSR2 is version 4.00.1111
Key- OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer (PC Maker), OSR2 = OEM Service Release 2, SP1 = Service Pack 1
All support for all versions of Windows 95 ended on December 31, 2002.  No new updates for Win95 will be made.
[the <> symbol means to install a patch with caution because it may have a possible side effect; I am not responsible if
the updates you download here do more harm than good]

Windows 95 Critical Non-Security Hotfixes/Updates (includes Win95 Year 2000 Updates):

Notes: Install all the non-critical Win95 & Y2K updates before installing the Win95 security updates below.
<> Caution: If you are having problems installing the Windows 95 Euro Update click here to download a few patches before running
the Euro Support Patch again.  Also, if you have already installed the MS Active Accessibility v1.3 addon under Win95 which
includes newer Gdi.exe and Gdi32.dll files the Win95 Euro Update will detect that you have MS Active Accessibility 1.3 installed
and refuse to install any files.  Restore the older GDI files (gdi.exe & gdi32.dll) and USER files (user.exe & user32.dll) from the
Win95 setup files, overwrite the current GDI & USER files with the older Win95 versions, apply the Win95 Euro Support update
and then re-install Active Accessibility 1.3 for Windows 95.  The Win95 SR1 PnP Support for Floppy Drives Update disables use
of the Suspend Power Management function and the Restart Windows trick may cause Win95 to hang.  Workaround is to
restart the computer normally and not use the tips to restart Windows.

Windows 95 SP1/OSR1 & OSR2 Security Updates:

Notes:  If you are paranoid about security, install ALL of the updates above but install these updates in ascending order, from
bottom to top.  For those using Windows 95 SR2, install the Old System Updates & Y2K updates first before installing the
security updates mentioned above starting from the Ifsmgr.vxd Update to the most recent security update.  For those using the
original release of Windows 95, install Service Pack 1 first before any kind of system update.

Windows 95 pre-OSR2 Service Packs: (only for original release versions of Win95)

Notes: The Win95 Service Pack downloads are for the original release editions of Win95.  Do NOT install the SP1 on OSR2 editions
of Win95 as OSR2 already includes all of the fixes from SP1.  Either edition of Win95 SP1 will update Win95 to version "A"
and/or OSR1.

Other Updates & add-ons for Windows 95 SP1 & OSR2:

Notes:  Some of the updates & addons mentioned here are for certain systems only & may cause problems in others.
DCOM 95 is required in order for the latest DirectX drivers & MDAC addons to function properly.  The Win95 Hardware Info
Diagnostic Tool is very useful in displaying version info about device drivers installed under any version of Win95; copy or save the
'hwinfo.exe' file in the 'C:\Windows' folder and then run 'hwinfo' with the /ui switch to display info about your computer.  Some of
the Microsoft Powertoys from the Windows 95 Powertoys set can be used under Windows 98 & ME [ex. SendTo Extensions,
Command Prompt Here & Target Context Menu powertoys] but do NOT install them under WinXP & higher.  The Directory
Services Client version 5.0.2920.5 is an updated release of DSClient for Win95 users mentioned in MS article 323455.  Do NOT
install the Win95/98 version of DSClient under WinNT4 and vice-versa; Win2000, XP & higher NT-based OSes already include
DSClient and other Active Directory services.  The Microsoft Spider Solitaire game will run under Windows 95 & NT4 BUT requires
the Desktop Update from at least IE 4.01 SP1; to install the Desktop Update with IE 5.x see my Computer Tips page - part 1 &
scroll to the Internet Explorer section on how to do it.  After installing the MS Paint program, download MS Paint Graphics Filters
Pack from Axcel216's web site and follow the instructions on how to install the newer graphics filters.  The WMI 1.5 addon
requires DCOM 95 when installing WMI 1.5 under Win95.  It will not install on a Win95 machine that does not have DCOM95
installed.  The NT4 Option Pack addon for Win95 includes Personal Web Server v4.0 that can run under Win95 machines.

Notes:  All updates for Windows 95 are found only at the MS Download Center.

Information on how to obtain and install system updates under Windows 95:

Note:  Be aware that there is also a Windows 2000/XP version of Qfecheck but it is run from the command line window.  Do NOT
use the Win2k/XP version of Qfecheck under Win95 and do not use the Win95 version under Win2k.  More info about the
Win2k & WinXP versions of Qfecheck is posted at the MS Support KB Article 282784.  The Win95 release of Qfecheck
DOES run under Win2000 & XP but will NOT find any Win2k/XP patches installed.
