ERPMan's Windows Vista System Updates Page
  (Updated Friday November 13, 2009)

Maximize the web browser window when viewing this page [using at least 800 by 600 screen resolution].

Windows Vista SP1 will change the version number from 6.0.6000 to 6.0.6001.
Windows Vista SP2 will change the version number from 6.0.6000 to 6.0.6002.

NOTE: Security updates listed here will be grouped by each year they were released.

(Critical Updates are bug fixes that fix serious problems such as specific security hacker attacks)
(Recommended Updates are optional - not really necessary to download & install but include system improvements)
NOTE: It is not necessary to download & install all of the updates listed on my page.  You are not required
to install them unless your system has suffered serious problems.  Make sure you download the
patches for the correct operating system.  You can uninstall most system updates from your system
if they cause more problems than they fix.

I've made this page simply for informational purposes and to make downloading updates faster & easier.  All the updates for
Windows Vista listed here can be installed under any edition except for the 64-bit (ia64/x64) versions.
Before installing any WinVista updates, be sure to activate and validate your copy of Windows Vista.

Key = Windows Vista original is Windows NT 6.0 version 6.00.6000, SP - Service Pack, NT - New Technology or Network
HB = Home Basic, HP = Home Premium, Bis. = Business, Ent. = Enterprise, Ult. = Ultimate
[a little star * indicates a new system update; the <> symbol means to install a patch with caution because it may have a
possible side effect; I am not responsible if the updates you download here do more harm than good]

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and any post-SP2 security updates listed above.
<> Caution: Problems have been noted after installing certain WinVista security updates that are marked with an <> symbol.
Read the corresponding MS support articles of the affected security patches.

Windows Vista Service Packs: (for all 32bit editions)

Notes: Only install the Windows Vista Service Pack if a newer hotfix or a security update requires it.  WinVista SP2 has
been publicly released in both the MS Download Center and Windows Update.  See MS KB article 947366 if you experience
problems installing either Vista SP1 or SP2.  Vista SP1 & SP2 are both available at Windows Update.  Installing Vista SP1
will change the version number from 6.0.6000.16386 to 6.0.6001.18000.  However, installing Vista SP2 will change the version
number to 6.0.6002.18005.  WinVista SP2 requires WinVista SP1 & the KB955430 update installed and cannot be installed
under the original release of WinVista.

Other Updates & Add-ons for Windows Vista:

Notes: Since Windows Vista no longer includes the old Windows Help Viewer to view help files with the .HLP file extension,
download & install the WinHlp32.exe Help Program to restore the ability to view .HLP help files in Vista.

Other sites to find system updates and/or info for Windows Vista:

Notes: Any downloads for Windows Vista are found from its Windows Update feature.  By default, Vista may be setup to download
and install system updates automatically while connected to the Internet.  To turn the feature off [if you're annoyed by it] open the
Control Panel, select the Windows Update control panel applet, click on the Change Settings link and select the option that says
"Never Check for Updates (not recommended)", then click Ok to save your settings.  Disabling Vista's Automatic Updates feature
by using that method will cause the Security Center feature to display some annoying pop-up messages that Automatic Updates
was turned off, so open up Security Center, click on "Change the way Security Center alerts me" link to bring up the Alert Settings
dialog box, uncheck the checbox next to Automatic Updates.  Then click OK to save changes and close the Security Center
window and Security Center will no longer display popup messages that Automatic Updates was disabled.
